National Underwear Day was founded, and had its inaugural celebration in August 2003. It first started as a guerilla marketing event with models in their underwear on the streets of New York City polling the public about their underwear preferences. Since that time, National Underwear Day has grown tremendously, evolving into a noted fashion event featuring underwear runway shows at the center of Times Square in New York City, underwear changing tents where the public entered to receive their own complimentary fresh pair, and live appearances by underwear models on the morning news shows. Every year, we celebrate yet another full force tribute to what everyone wears underneath.

This year's National Underwear Day took place on Tuesday, August 5th, 2008. During the day, thousands of pairs of underwear, socks, and other giveaways from Unico, Wigwam, 2(x)ist, Soak, 3G and Hanes were passed out on the streets of New York to lucky passersby. The Freshpair Street Teams caused such a scene that Fox 5 showed up to cover the commotion!

In commemoration of the 6th anniversary of National Underwear Day, over seven hundred VIPs, celebrities and international tastemakers joined Freshpair indoors on the evening of the 5th at the glamorous venue Espace in New York to celebrate! Actress and fashion maven Lydia Hearst hosted this year's National Underwear Day. Model Tyson Beckford also made a special appearance. Celebrities and influencers flooded the red carpet, including Russell Simmons, Ben DeChiara from Make Me A Supermodel, Richie Rich of Heatherette, Jaslene Gonzalez and Nolè Marin from America's Next Top Model, stylists Philip Bloch and Robert Verdi, the new cast of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and many more. Runway shows featuring the hottest underwear brands and styles went on all night and models in showcases lined the venue, allowing guests to take in all the hot bodies and never-been-seen looks while sipping on cocktails and enjoying DJ Corey Craig's spinning. Underwear is no longer considered "unmentionable." With National Underwear Day, we focus the public's awareness on underwear for just one day in the spirit of grand celebration. National Underwear Day is the day when underwear becomes not just the first thing you put on and the last thing you take off, but the most important thing you wear all day.
